Very Friendly Animals

We have friends that invited us for a walk and lunch. We knew they had chickens and ducks, and had recently installed a new duck pond, so we were anxious to visit and see the animals doing animal things.

During our walk, we encountered these additional friendly animals in a neighbor's yard.

Yummy Grass

After returning, we spent time at the duck pond along with its local inhabitants.

Ribbit!

The chickens were an unexpected attraction. I'd no idea how photogenic chickens could be.

Why the Face?

Here are the three ducks frolicking happily in their new pond.

I had to sneak in a flower photo among all these friendly animals.

Wild Kingdom

This post is all about animals doing their normal daily activities. My camera captures them in their natural habitat,... perhaps they're searching for food, or perhaps just whiling away the afternoon.

This painted turtle is soaking up the sun resting on a log. Must be time for afternoon sunbathing.

The turtle is looking directly at me where I stand on the shore. Still, it seems largely unconcerned about my presence. I'm about 20 feet away and there's water between us. Smart turtle.

The Look

All turtles come aboard! This appears to be the log to sunbathe on. It would seem that turtles are social animals. Maybe some of them are siblings?

Party Time

I was amused by the stance of this robin. Sort of looks like she's looking around something to see what new danger lurks.

Robin on Patrol

Does this duck have any idea what beautiful golden water he's gliding through?

Baltimore Orioles are not commonly seen in our yard, so I was delighted to see this one gracing our hawthorn tree, even for a quick visit.

Oriole Peek

Red-winged blackbirds love to stand on tall skinny objects like these cattails on Farm Pond.

Balancing Act

This one found a different perch to survey the situation on the pond.

Dragonfly Festival

I had the privilege of photographing the 2nd annual Ashland Dragonfly Festival.  This is a free fair put on by the Ashland Arts Alliance.  The August 15 event began at 4 in the afternoon and continued 'till dusk. Included were several music performances, dancing, vendors selling their crafts, floating torches and luminary lights on Mill Pond, plenty of food to eat, face painting, and many more fun activities.  I took over 600 pictures with my Olympus gear, and 12-40mm lens.  I've chosen to share with you the following images.  Enjoy!
